Day 2 and we’re still kickin’

By krose | October 18, 2009

We are back at our post, warmed with wine from the Rav party and our fridge. From a Rhinebeck virgin, I will testify that Rhinebeck is mecca for knitters (though Helene will complain about the abundance of roving). Saturday has been a lovely day of fall foliage, brisk weather, and finished objects! As a Ravelry newbie, I loved that I could recognize patterns as I walked around and observed all the “woolies.”

Highlights of the day –

Julz is our absent minded professor. During our trip, she’s lost her DPNs (first one, then all five), circulars, toothbrush, her ticket, and her room key (as well as her patience with us!).

The word of day is brought to you by the count ah ha ha ha – snuggly… we’ve been bundled up all day long, loving our comfy clothes and woolen surroundings, and now we’re in the official Rhinebeck stitch and bitch, lobby of the Quality Inn, dressed in pajamas, with our NY and CT friends.

As I write, the CT friends are teaching how to spin with a drop spindle – Julz is a traitor and decided not to boycott the roaving along with the rest of the SnB. But we are proud of Julz because she looks like a pro!

What were the conquests of the day? Helene bought some lovely Creatively Dyed, Julz bought some roving and a drop spindle, Caroline gave in to her bunny wishes (I was a bad enabler, but Helene came to the rescue), and I bought some alpaca (because it was so darn soft!) and some Christmas presents.

Helene has been the master of the road trip because of her anal retentive organizational skills. Not only has she been well prepared with snacks and drinks, but she also got us out of the Ravelry party on the first bus – take that suckers!

Other highlights – we met the Rav crew, including a knitted mascot symbolizing Bob – they are our heroes normal people – don’t question! We laughed at the people standing in line for artichokes and chicken pot pie. And, unfortunately, none of us won anything at the Rav party… maybe next year, I know I’ll be here again.

Now, we’re all snuggly in our beds (we’re not thinking about what’s been here before)… and praying that the N’oreaster will hold off long enough to let us enjoy one more day of Rhinebeck awesomeness.

  1. [...] After the party we went back and hung out at the hotel with the other knitters, and Karen gave a spinning lesson to some of the Taunton gals. [...]
