Stitching and shopping and cake…oh my

By Helene | February 28, 2010

At long last it was Trunk Show Eve!  Our lovely new england weather and the stupid “fauxstorm” had caused us to postpone from two weeks ago – perhaps the weather gods are just not knitters.  Nancy arrived with bags and bags of fantastic fiber in all its hand dyed glory.  We do know each other well – knowing who would gravitate to what skein without question.  We also knew which skeins we would all want….  A word to the wise, never ever get in Wendy’s way when she sees the yarn she wants.  There’s a reason she has 370+ skeins in her stash.  Not that she is like a bride on  Filenes Basement on wedding dress sale day or anything but she’s skilled…and her skills are no match for the rest of us.  We bow to your greatness oh guru of yarn shopportunities!

The yarn was really spectacular and the prices were amazing.  There are now socks, scraves and shawls in pretty much everyones queue all courtesy of Chestnut Bay Fibers.  there was even some beautiful roving.  Kim will be spinning and there will also be thrumming of mittens but we wont mention by whom because we dont want the roving to go looking for the lost mitten!

There were of course a few bags purchased as well, because what is a knitter who doesnt have a bag habit!  Nancy commented on what a great group and great space we have….truer words have not been spoken.

The fun part about Trunk Show night was that it was also birthday night.  Obviously we could have a celebration of some sort every week, which is why we pay attention to milestones….face it…no one needs that much cake!  Our lovely and talented Miss Owl turned the big 4-0 earlier this month… Of course her surprise party was also pre-empted by the stupid idiotic fauxstorm.  We toasted Julz with a little token of our love in the form of a Stitch House gift certificate.  Whats a birthday without cake right?  And what better kind of cake to give the knitting designer of “BD’s Neck Warmer” than one that was anatomically appropriate.  What was that Julz?  ”Because he has one, not because he is one!”  Thanks to Melissa who totally outdid herself with two cakes giving all of us our choice of flavors (yep, I almost went there!).  The laughs were abundant and I will keep this blog PG in text even though the innuendo is off the chart.  Happy Birthday!

We were thrilled to have all three of our blossoming pregnant women join us tonight….three stages of belly…what fun…because you know pregnant women need to shop too!  Of course most of the regulars were in attendance with a few notable absences…missed you Tal, Maggie, Erin, Nessa, Kat and Meghan!!

Owls are in progress and Julz helped Cranky get through her short rows all while dealing with Cranky’s short patience.  Cranky’s motto “When in doubt…rip it out!”  How’s that for fearless…we dont need no stinkin stitch markers!  Wendy and Tal are way behind…but we have faith that those projects will come out of hibernation soon!

We celebrated Darcy’s finishing her very first crochet project – alas she was camera shy this week but Aaron, being the amazing sport he always is, modeled it for her.

Spring knits are in the air, and we can slowly see the trend of the heavier wools and fibers turning into brighter colors and fewer long sleeves.  Oh the choices!

A special blog welcome to Toni…who introduced herself to the group on Ravelry this week.  She’ll be headed our way when she moves to Taunton in a few months.  Can’t wait to meet you Toni – especially since we already know you have a bad fiber habit and attitude to match!  Welcome to our insanity!

This concludes your blog update…keep your stitches on the needles!
